September 2026 Update: The next Home Depot Kids Workshop is “Build a School Bus Organizer” on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Registration opened on August 10 at 10:30 a.m. local time. Check availability through Home Depot Canada.
When I first heard about the Home Depot Kids Workshop, I honestly thought,
“Okay, another kids’ activity to kill some time on Saturday. Just do something…”
I didn’t have very high expectations.
But after attending three workshops, my son is already asking,
“Mom, is it Home Depot day yet?”
Honestly, even if this were a paid program, I would still consider signing him up.
Kids get to use real tools, build something, paint it, and bring the finished project home. The quality of the whole experience was much better than I expected.
What Is the Home Depot Kids Workshop?

The Home Depot Kids Workshop is a free monthly DIY activity for children.
Each month, kids build a small wooden project with help from a parent or guardian.
The children also receive a free Home Depot apron, a certificate, and a badge for completing the project.

What Did My Son Enjoy?
My son absolutely loved using a real hammer. (He almost hammered his dad’s thumb once.)
He also enjoyed painting the project and watching all the pieces come together.
It is not one of those simple crafts that gets thrown away the next day. The children actually bring home something they built themselves, and they can play with it afterward. (almost as good as a Melissa & Doug toy. 😂)

The best part is hearing your child say,
“I made this!”
You can really see how proud they are.
My son added more colours to the top of his project and took a photo of it himself. He was clearly very happy with how it turned out because I later found about 20 photos of the same project on my phone. 😂
Why I Recommend It
As parents, we are always looking for activities that are affordable, educational, hands-on, and actually fun for the kids.
The Home Depot Kids Workshop checks all of those boxes.
Children get to practise using tools, follow instructions, solve small problems, and be creative.
The staff were also friendly and helpful, which left a good impression on us.
How to Register

You can register through the Home Depot Canada Kids Workshop page.
FREE In-store Kids Workshops – Homedepot.ca
Since the workshops are free, the spots fill up very quickly.
And when I say quickly, I mean within minutes.
Registration Tip: Be Ready Early
My biggest tip is to try booking the earliest time slot.
In my experience, the 8:30 a.m. session gives you a better chance of getting a spot before all the available times fill up.
Set a reminder, log into your account ahead of time, and be ready when registration opens.
It feels a little dramatic for a children’s workshop, but this is apparently the life we live now.
My son already expects me to get a spot every month. (He has never asked when he can go back to the other programs I paid $30 an hour for…)
No pressure at all.
Final Thoughts

If you’re a parent in Toronto or the GTA looking for a fun weekend activity that won’t cost anything, I definitely recommend trying the Home Depot Kids Workshop.
Kids get to build, paint, use real tools, and bring home something they made themselves.
You get to watch them have fun while trying to make sure nobody hammers anyone else’s fingers.
Everybody wins.
Just remember…
Your child might love it so much that every month you’ll start hearing,
“Mommy, did you get a spot?”
(Haa… pressure.)
